This course delivered over two evenings, covers both the theory and practical elements of how to safely handle and move patients with the use of equipment and also recommend the best methods and techniques in a manner, which is safe for themselves and their patients. Theory and practical topics covered include: The law and its application to the manual handling environment, muscular-skeletal system, bio-mechanics and mechanism of injury, flexibility, ergonomics and risk assessment, basic principles of lifting, basic inanimate lifting, falling or fallen patient, turning patient in bed, moving patient up in bed, sitting patient forward, moving seated patient up in bed, moving patient from bed, moving seated patient from bed to chair, assisting patient to walk. An assessment will be carried out at the end of the course and all participants will be issued with a certificate in Patient Handling.
